Wellness Care & Your Pet
Most pets should see their veterinarian at least once a year. Depending on your pet’s age, breed, and general health, we may recommend that your pet comes in to see us more frequently. For example, elderly pets and puppies or kittens will often have to see us more regularly than other pets. Our team will help you understand what the best cadence of care is for your pet.
A wellness exam at Swift Creek Animal Hospital typically includes:
- A nose-to-tail physical exam, leaving no paw unturned
- Laboratory testing of your pet’s urine, blood, and/or feces
- Vaccinations
- Parasite prevention measures
Your pet’s physical exam is a great tool for our team to better understand your pet’s general health. We examine your pet from the tip of their nose to the tip of their tail, searching for things like lumps, bumps, and scratches. We will take a close look at your pet’s fur, eyes, nose, mouth, and ears. We can learn a lot about your pet’s health without any invasive measures.
Laboratory Testing
Laboratory testing in our in-house laboratory is conducted alongside your pet’s physical exam. We will usually test your pet’s blood, urine, or feces to check for things like parasites and the function of your pet’s internal organs. This data is important to understanding your pet’s internal health, which we cannot assess during a physical exam.
Pet Vaccinations
Vaccinations protect your pets from a broad range of communicable diseases. Even the healthiest of pets can fall victim to these diseases if they are not properly immunized. Depending on your pet’s age, breed, and general health, we will make recommendations as to what vaccines are necessary for your pet.
Parasite Prevention
Parasite prevention is similar to vaccines in that these treatments can help keep your pet healthy in the face of potentially dangerous parasites. Depending on your pet’s health and lifestyle, we may make recommendations for different kinds of parasites your pet may be vulnerable to.
